• Communications — messages you send or receive through Tamu, including WhatsApp replies such as confirmations or cancellation requests.
• Technical data — IP address, browser type, device information, and usage logs when you visit our website or use our services.

3. WhatsApp and Meta WhatsApp Business API

Tamu uses the Meta WhatsApp Business API (also known as the WhatsApp Cloud API) to send and receive business messages on behalf of restaurants using our platform. This section describes how that integration works and how your data is handled.

3.1 What we use WhatsApp for

• Reservation confirmations and updates
• Booking reminders (for example, 24 hours and 1 hour before a reservation)
• Waitlist notifications and slot offers
• Responses to guest inquiries initiated via WhatsApp
• Service-related messages requested by the restaurant you booked with

3.2 Information shared with Meta

To deliver WhatsApp messages, we share the following with Meta Platforms, Inc. and its affiliates as required to operate the WhatsApp Business API:

• Your WhatsApp phone number
• Message content (including template text and your replies)
• Message delivery and read status
• Metadata associated with message delivery (such as timestamps)

3.3 Your consent to WhatsApp messaging

By providing your phone number, completing a reservation, messaging us on WhatsApp, or opting in through a restaurant’s booking flow, you consent to receive service-related WhatsApp messages from Tamu or the restaurant you booked with, sent via the WhatsApp Business API.

Marketing or promotional messages are only sent where permitted by applicable law and where you have given appropriate consent. You may opt out of non-essential messages at any time by replying STOP or contacting us at [email protected].

3.4 Message retention

WhatsApp message content and delivery logs may be stored in Tamu’s systems for as long as needed to provide the service, resolve disputes, meet legal obligations, and improve our platform. Meta may retain data according to its own retention schedules.

4. How we use your information

We use personal information to:

• Process and manage restaurant reservations
• Send confirmations, reminders, and service notifications (including via WhatsApp and email)
• Route guest replies to the correct reservation and restaurant
• Provide customer support and respond to inquiries
• Improve, secure, and operate our website and platform

5. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with:

• Restaurants you book with — reservation and contact details needed to honour your booking.
• Meta / WhatsApp — as described in Section 3, to send and receive messages through the WhatsApp Business API.
• Service providers — hosting, email delivery, payment processors, and analytics providers that help us operate Tamu, under contractual confidentiality obligations.
• Legal authorities — when required by applicable law, regulation, or legal process.

6. Data storage and security

We store data on secure servers and apply reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Where data is processed outside Indonesia, we take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place consistent with applicable data-protection requirements.

7. Data retention

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy, including providing our services, meeting legal and accounting requirements, and resolving disputes. When data is no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it.
